How to get to Formentera

Being a small island, Formentera does not have an airport, making it accessible only by boat from Ibiza. This adds another step to the journey, but you will find the journey is well worth it.

Surprisingly there is a good selection of boat services to and from Formentera, with many leaving on an hourly basis in summer.  Most boats leave from the main port in Ibiza and take around half an hour to reach the port of La Savina in Formentera. But first, how to get to Ibiza port.

Getting to Ibiza port from Ibiza Airport

There are several ways to get to the port from Ibiza airport.  The quickest way is to hire a taxi from outside the arrivals terminal.  This will cost you from €20 to get to the port which is 10-15 minutes drive away from the airport.

A sometimes more cost effective but slower way to get to the port is to catch the L10 bus (autobus) from outside the arrivals terminal (walk to your right as you come out and head to the far end to find the bus stops).  In summer it leaves every 30min, and takes about 30min to get to the port. More information on buses can be found at the Ibizabus website.

If you have a car and wish to leave it near the port, there is a car park adjacent to the port, down a side street behind the main buildings, which costs from €20 a day.

Alternatively you can rent a car at Ibiza airport, and take it across to Formentera on the ferry.  Just make sure your car hire company will allow the car to be taken to Formentera before you cross.
