Surprisingly there is a good selection of boat services to and from Formentera, with many leaving on an hourly basis in summer.  Most boats leave from the main port in Ibiza and take around half an hour to reach the port of La Savina in Formentera. But first, how to get to Ibiza port.

Getting to Ibiza port from Ibiza Airport

There are several ways to get to the port from Ibiza airport.  The quickest way is to hire a taxi from outside the arrivals terminal.  This will cost you around €20 to get to the port which is 10-15 minutes drive away from the airport.

A sometimes more cost effective but slower way to get to the port is to catch the L10 bus (autobus) from outside the arrivals terminal (walk to your right as you come out and head to the far end to find the bus stops).  In summer it leaves every 30min, and costs, at the time of writing, €3.60, and takes about 30min to get to the port. More information on buses can be found at the Ibizabus website.

If you have a car and wish to leave it near the port, there is a car park adjacent to the port, down a side street behind the main buildings, which costs around €17 a day.

Alternatively you can hire a car at Ibiza airport, and take it across to Formentera on the ferry.  Just make sure your car hire company will allow the car to be taken to Formentera before you cross.

Ferries from Ibiza to Formentera

Many ferry companies operate a service to Formentera from Ibiza.  It usually costs around €43 for a return ticket and the journey takes around half an hour.

The main companies operating these faster services are, Mediterranea Pitiusa, Balearia and Transmapi. All are a similar price and leave from Ibiza port every 1-2 hours.

If you don’t mind a slower journey with transferring to another boat in Playa d’en Bossa, Aquabus operate a cheaper service using fitted out old fishing boats.  It costs €19 for a day return, or €29 if you are going for longer. Journey times can vary from 1 to 2 hours and are via Playa d’en Bossa.

Ferries from Denia to Formentera

There is another way to get to Formentera, which means you can skip Ibiza altogether. And that is to catch a ferry from Denia, on mainland Spain, direct to La Savina port, Formentera.  It will cost you around €70 each way for passengers from Denia and usually takes around 3 hours.  Cars can also be taken with you on the ferry from Denia.
